News From the Horse Barn!

Summer is upon us. In our part of Texas, it is still Spring and that is VERY unusual. No complaint from us though. I am enjoying watching my palomino horse colt. He thinks he owns this place and all the other horses treat him like he does. I find it interesting the way horses respond to foals.

I will be combining the Learn All About Horses Newsletter website and the Learn All About Horses website into one. I think it will be more convenient for you, and definitely easier for me. If you know of someone who would enjoy Learn All About Horses, please send them our URL.

Our featured website this month is Horse and History or A Dog May Be Man's Best Friend, but it was the Horse That Built Civilization!

This website consists of an interesting and informative essay on the impact of the horse on human history! A must read!

Horses get itchy spots in odd places, one being the side of their head. They usually scratch this particular itch on a post or a tree--or the nearest human.

Humans are not suitable scratching posts! It is simply too dangerous to allow a horse to run on a person. Real damage can be done to human skin, especially if the horse is wearing a bridle or a halter.

Plus it indicates a level of disrespect that can lead to more aggressive behaviors.

I thought this month I'd introduce you to me. In this picture, Diamond and I are in Vermont. Diamond is the mother of Shade, the palomino baby I keep bragging about. Shade was born April 14, 2002.

Some of my earliest memories are centered around horses. In fact, I can't remember a time that I didn't have a horse. I have been training, showing, and teaching riding lessons for 18 years. And now I have added writing about horses and horsemanship to my list of horse-related activities.
